Herb Ritts [Exhibition]

Master of light, Herb Ritts knew how to capture beauty in its most minimalistic way. Using mainly black and white, his photography is a perfect balance of strength and delicacy as the contrast gives a sharp and pure result.

His work does not only consist in playing with different shades but also in combining various textures, dynamic poses and studied angles. Whether for advertisement or editorial shoots, these elements are key to his inspiring photo series.

His career took off when his pictures of – the then aspiring actor – Richard Gere were featured in a few magazines. He then kept on shooting big Hollywood celebrities like Madonna, Drew Barrymore or Jack Nicholson but also iconic models such as Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Alek Wek. Herbs Ritts would also express his creativity through nature in photographing animals and landscapes.

Herb Ritts became a reference in the fashion industry as he worked with several high quality magazines and luxury brands. His attention to detail and refinement will always be remembered and appreciated.
