THE STORY BEGINS…
… with an investigative interview under the title “Can Great Skin Be Created?” in the year 1967 Vogue issue.
Its editor Carol Phillips was looking for the next revolution in terms of skin care. Her research lead to a certain Dr. Norman Orentriech whose 3-Step method was not common at the time.
Little did she know, Leonard Lauder – from Estée Lauder – was seeking a new target audience for his brand. He immediately arranged a meeting between the glamorous Vogue editor and his mother Estée. The traditional single moisturizing cream ritual was yet to be changed.
In September 1968, “Carol said yes” and Clinique was born – in collaboration with Dr. Orentriech, by the way – to revolutionize the beauty industry. The dermatologist-developped brand’s motto was – and is still nowadays: allergy tested and 100% fragrance-free.
The new 3-Step sytem was now introduced to consumers but the true revolution resided in the fact each person could now find a skin care ritual in accordance to its skin type.
TWICE A DAY…
… for best results, is how often the the 3-Step Clinique ritual should be used. For each product mentionned hereunder, the promise and the how to directions are taken straight from the Clinique instruction leaflet.
Skin Type 2: Dry Combination [Oily T-Zone, uncomfortably dry cheeks.]
Step 1 – Facial Soap. To Cleanse.
Its how great skin begins – in three skin-typed formulas. Leaves skin feeling clean, comfortable, refreshed, without drying. Preps skin for the next steps.
Step 2 – Clarifying Lotion. To Exfoliate.
The difference-maker. Applied with cotton ball, gentle exfoliating action sweeps away dead, dull cells. Speeds fresher, livelier cells to skin’s surface to promote radiance. Four skin-typed formulas adress any need. For external use only. Avoid eye area.
Step 3 – Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. To moisturize.
Softens, smooths and improves skin’s texture and condition. Maintains skin’s optimal moisture balance.
So, can great skin be created?
To be continued…
Have fun!
Love,
Hermine
